Frequently asked questions.

What can I expect during my first session?

Our first session will be primarily focused on building rapport, gathering information, and clarifying what to expect during the counseling process. We’ll usually start by getting the legal stuff out of the way (going over confidentiality, etc.), then explore what’s bringing you to counseling and any relevant background information. From there, we’ll establish what you want to accomplish during counseling and come up with a plan to achieve those goals. During the session, you’ll also have the chance to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes, sessions can be either in-office or via video chat online. Virtual sessions take place on a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform.

How long are counseling sessions?

A counseling session typically lasts 50 minutes (one clinical hour). Longer sessions, usually 75 or 90-minutes, are also available if desired or deemed important as we discuss your specific needs.

How long should I expect to be in therapy?

This all depends on the circumstances. Some struggles are more focused and significant improvement can be seen in just a handful of sessions, while others are more complex and take a longer time. Either way, the length of treatment is a collaboration between the client and therapist. When it feels as if goals have been met or other circumstances have arisen that make it difficult to continue therapy, we can talk about when would be a good time to stop or pause sessions.

How much do sessions cost?

Current rates are $150 per 50-minute session.

If financial help is needed, we can work together to figure out a way to make therapy more affordable or connect you with someone that can meet your needs.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not currently accept insurance. However, a form called a superbill can be easily provided so you can submit it to your insurance company for reimbursement for out-of-network services. Check with your insurance provider to see what your out-of-network benefits include.

Do you offer reduced-fee or sliding scale rates?

Yes, I have a limited number of slots available for reduced-fee sessions. If this is something you need, you can submit a reduced-fee application and we can work together to make counseling more feasible. If I do not have current availability, we will figure out other options, such as out-of-network insurance reimbursement or referrals to other local clinicians, to make sure you can get the care you need.
